Do to its ease of use, PHP is the language of choice for quite a few Open Source projects. Examples of highly successful projects include Drupal, Moodle, SugarCRM, and MediaWiki.

Aside from extending Open Source projects written in PHP, Concentric Sky uses PHP for web-based projects that must be developed very quickly.
